PARTICIPANTS
RESOLUTION THE CONFERENCE ON NONLINEAR DYNAMICS took place at NATIONAL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY "KHARKOV POLYTECHNICAL INSTITUTE", Kharkov, Ukraine, September, 14-16, 2004. Altogether 47 scientists from 11 countries and 3 continents participated at the conference. The conference demonstrated the great interest of scientists and engineers from different countries in studying nonlinear dynamics phenomena and in international cooperation in this field. The overall scientific level of the conference was high. The main subjects of the presentations were the theory of non-linear normal modes, bifurcations and chaotic behaviour of oscillators, simulation, numerical analysis and their applications to the dynamics of structures, nonlinear vibrations and waves in fluids, solids, beams, blades, plates and shells, filled fluid shells and tanks. Furthermore, some reports were concerned on dynamic behaviour in structures as a creep and damage of their materials, and some nonlinear dynamic effects in physics, electronic gas and piezometers. The majority of presentations was devoted to theoretical investigation and computer simulation of vibration phenomena in nonlinear systems. There were few experimental studies but they made important contributions (Experimental studies were few, but made important contributions). The program included 14 twenty-five-minute-lectures and 26 reports, they were on 4 principal topics: Nonlinear oscillations of system of oscillators; Nonlinear waves; Nonlinear dynamics of distributed systems; Applications of nonlinear dynamics. Presentations and ensuing discussions demonstrated an importance of researches on nonlinear dynamics, including recent developments in the theory and applications of nonlinear normal modes, bifurcations and chaos behaviour in oscillatory systems, liquid, solids, beams, plates and shells. The conference showed the benefits of cooperation between theoreticians and computationalists, and in particularly evident importance in further experimental validation. It also became apparent that new numerical tools need to be developed to analyze nonlinear dynamics phenomena. The conference confirmed the importance of international cooperation by research teams involving scientists from different countries. It got together applied mathematicians, specialists in theoretical and applied mechanics, physics, mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering. A book of abstracts has been published and distributed to the participants. Proceedings of the conference will be published in 2004. Some presentations are recommended by the scientific committee of the conference for publishing in international journals. Furthermore, a similar conference will be held in the future, perhaps, two years later.
