The first and later the primary customer of the department research work was the design office of electrical appliances construction (nowadays Khartron), director of which was one of the initiators of creating the department in 1964. Under the direction of professor A.V. Dabagjan the young and not numerous staff of the department managed to prove to be a highly skilled and reliable partner in solving new complex scientific and technical problems concerning the creation of technical object control systems that were maintained on the ground and in space. The scientific and technical public and heads of large scientific research institutes, design offices and factories not only in Kharkov but also in other cities of the great country paid attention to this doubtless success. Then the research work at the department was carried out on the basis of economic contracts for many organizations: Turbine Plant (Kharkov), Malyshev Factory (Kharkov), Institute of Cybernetics (Kiev), the organization Agate (Moscow), State Scientific Research Institute of Civil Aircraft (Moscow), and etc.
moving objects control;
astronavigational research and creation of space simulators;
development control of the civil aircraft technologies;
program and target design and control;
computer-aided systems for technical and economic objects.
The results of the research work in all indicated areas were discussed at the seminar ‘Control of complex technical and economic systems’ within the Kharkov section of the scientific council of the Academy of sciences of Ukraine concerning cybernetics.
Since the middle 1990s the research work of the department has increased. Various developments are carried out for the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine within the framework of a priority direction ‘Perspective information technologies, systems of complex automation and communication’ and also for separate organizations such as Kharkov state enterprise of T.G. Shevchenko, the design office Promautomatica (Kharkov), the open company ASUGasservice, the office Kharkovgasdobycha, the firm UNIQUARE (Klagenfurt, Austria), and etc.
Since 1964 more than 45 Ph.D. theses have been defended at the department and 11 graduates, post-graduates and lecturers have defended their theses for a Doctor's degree.
Nowadays there are 11 post-graduate students at the department. Besides 2 lecturers are completing their doctoral theses, which are to be defended on the specialties 05.13.06 and 05.13.07 in the appropriate scientific councils. These facts allow us to hope for new results and achievements in scientific research work at Computer-Aided Management Systems department.
